Resident Support Specialist Part-Time Evening & Weekend

Purpose: The Evening Resident Support Specialist’s primary responsibility is to assist in the establishment and maintenance of a healthy and safe living environment for persons with co-occurring disorders.  The Resident Support Specialist is a member of the Stephen Center HERO Program staff.  He/she will model healthy daily living skills for HERO program participants.  The Resident Support Specialist will provide active support and assistance in the HERO residence facility by maintaining standards and policies that uphold order in the treatment facility living units and that facilitate personal growth. 

 

Key Accountabilities:

·         Assist other program staff in medication management and monitoring client behaviors.

·         Daily report of shift activities to staff.

·         Monitor HERO Program participant’s health as needed, medication intake, record shift activities; assist and instruct participants in self-medication.

·         Accurate reporting of participant data and information utilizing confidentiality standards.

·         Model healthy personal, social, daily living, leisure, vocational and educational living skills.

·         Monitor participant behavior and use appropriate intervention strategies and positive reinforcement related to behavior.

·         Identify and complete tasks independently, effectively exercising discretion and judgment in areas of responsibility; use time and materials efficiently and effectively and meet required deadlines.

·         Demonstrate responsiveness to supervision, job performance evaluations and consultation, professional development and training.

·         Perform all duties in a professional manner and respect confidentiality.

·         Perform participant urine drug testing on an as needed basis.

·         Responsible for maintaining good order in HERO facility.

·         Assist with check-in/check-out procedures, as needed.

·         Carry out duty assignments and attend/participate in staff meetings.

·         Hold floor/unit meetings as needed to openly discuss issues and concerns of the community, and in turn report concerns to staff.

·         Problem solve with residents in a positive, caring manner.

·         Respond to emergency situations efficiently and effectively.

·         Implement administrative procedures in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner (Room Condition Forms, Incident Reports, Maintenance Requests, etc.).

·         Show consistent interpretation and enforcement of regulations and policies.

·         Responsible for maintaining a positive living environment.

·         Foster an atmosphere/environment that is conducive to participant treatment goals.

·         Foster relationships based on trust and mutual respect, while maintaining appropriate staff/participant boundaries and confidentiality.

·         Encourage and support positive group activities within the facility and assist in the planning and implementation of weekend activities.

·         Promote personal, social, and spiritual growth of participants.

·         Develop and maintain good rapport with each participant in your area, as well as others in the building.

·         Act as a resource person, mediator, and peer counselor, while respecting boundaries and confidentiality.

·         Serve as a role model to all participants through having concern and regard for others’ welfare, displaying ethical behavior, having positive social interactions, self-respect, and regard for a healthy lifestyle.

·         Be available and responsive to participants’ concerns, questions, and anxieties.

·         Help participants to problem solve in a pro-social environment.

Position Requirements:

·         High School Diploma or equivalent.  Certified Nursing Assistant or Medication Aide preferred.

·         Current Certification in CPR and first aid.

·         Basic knowledge and skills in co-occurring disorders, behavioral intervention practices, and positive reinforcement in recovery.

·         Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team.

·         Strong organizational, planning and problem-solving skills.

·         Ability to use independent judgment, manage multiple priorities, and exercise discretion in the delivery of services with moderate to minimal supervision.

·         Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

·         Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and respond on an on-call basis to urgent and emergency situations.

·         Ability to maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and groups.

·         Ability to use the Microsoft Office applications.

·         Conduct self in a manner of professionalism that is conducive to recovery from mental illness, co-occurring disorders and overall wellness, including a minimum of one year of continuous sobriety if in recovery, from the substance for which you are in recovery.

·         Abide by all specific program and Agency procedures, policies, and requirements.

·         An authentic and honest employee plays a key role in the client’s recovery.
