Co-Occurring/Mental Health Therapist

Purpose: This position is responsible for providing treatment services, including treatment, assessment, psychotherapy, counseling, and educational activities, to a population diagnosed with Co-Occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders, with a primary focus on quality improvement activities and service provision within the Stephen Center HERO program.  This is a professional level position responsible for ensuring programs and services comply with applicable federal, state and grant health related standards.  Other related duties may be assigned as needed.


Key Accountabilities:

Full Time Position: Days and possible weekends/holidays

Perform a full range of client services along the treatment continuum from screening to aftercare in individual, group, and family settings

Responsible for evidence-based, quality service delivery

Accurate, timely, high quality record keeping and data entry consistent with applicable statutory, regulatory, licensing, accreditation standards, and organizational policies and procedures

Planning treatment strategies and developing written individual service plans including both short- and long-term goals, both to clients on assigned case load and Co-Occurring disordered clients on LADC caseloads, as needed

Supervision of Provisionally licensed staff and interns using Evidence Based supervision strategies, utilizing an approved learning objectives tool

Perform all duties in an ethical and professional manner, consistently presenting this image both at work and in the community, and following all state and national ethical guidelines in practice

Conducts self in a manner of professionalism that is conducive to recovery from mental illness, co-occurring disorders and overall wellness, including a minimum of one year of continuous sobriety if in recovery, from the substance for which you are in recovery.

Abides by all specific program and Agency procedures, policies, and requirements.

Position Requirements: 

Master’s Degree in Counseling or related fields required.  Nebraska licensed mental health therapist/licensed alcohol/drug counselor required; knowledge and experience in addiction treatment, "best practices" research.

Knowledge and experience in total quality management, program planning and evaluation preferred. 

Experience in health care services requiring compliance with federal and state standards and report writing; interpret and utilize current policy and procedures; experience as a recipient of program auditing and state or federal site visits.

Experience with data analysis and tracking; knowledge of operations in the human services and related fields; skills in developing new projects; self-initiative; ability to develop and present trainings and provide technical assistance.

Knowledge of mental health and substance abuse disorders and how alcohol and drug abuse treatment services and criminal behaviors/thinking impact recovery.

Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, with responsibility to exercise substantial discretion and independent judgment.

Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population including, but not limited to, persons with severe mental illness, persons requiring substance abuse treatment, family members, mental health professionals, business and governmental authorities, and community stakeholders.

Strong time management skills and the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple projects simultaneously is essential.

Knowledge of Nebraska Standardized Model for the Delivery of Substance Abuse Services.

Demonstrated competency with PC/Word processing, Spreadsheet Software, and use of e-mail as a communication tool.

Excellent/clear verbal and written communications skills; may work irregular hours to accommodate consumer focused treatment.
